The Gyrfalcon, largest falcon on earth, one of if not the most highly prized birds of prey for falconers, surely one of the premier predators to observe in the field and without a doubt, lord of the arctic skies! The Gyrfalcon occurs in three various colors, grey, dark and depicted here, white. They prey most typically on birds, especially Ptarmigans. Their habitat of choice is open tundra with nearby cliffs and rocky outcroppings. Their white plumage is a well suited camouflage in their snow covered world.
