Western Grebes

Revel in the dance of life

Truly one of the great courtship displays is that of the Western Grebe. Seemingly wedded to water like some avian submarine these graceful birds often stun observers when they suddenly burst upward & assume this strange posture while skittering across the surface at a great speed. Like aquatic sprinters racing neck & neck, they appear to be heading toward the finish line, wings back, chests out and heads forward!
